A Maltese Summer

During the summer, the Maltese climate is sunny and hot but with cooling sea breezes making it an ideal time to visit. Aside from its culturally enriching attractions, Arabic influenced architecture and rich maritime history, Malta also plays hosts to many events throughout the summer months.

Starting the summer season with a bang, is the Malta International Fireworks Festival at Grand Harbour Marina, from 29^th to 30^th April. This festival forms part of the 8th anniversary celebrations of Malta’s accession to the European Union. For the best view of this incredible display of lights and colours head to the Valletta sea front and make your way inside the marina.

Malta plays host to the acclaimed ‘Isle of MTV’ concert where, thousands travel each year (to see the likes of Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas and The Scissor Sisters) and this year on 26^th June the concert is set to be the greatest yet, with the international, multi-platinum selling musician and star of the Voice, Will.i.am head lining alongside Flo Rida and Nelly Furtado.

To experience a more traditional and authentic side of Malta the offerings are endless throughout the summer. Sample one of the many Festas which periodically take over Maltese villages across the island, or indulge your artistic side throughout July by attending an event at the Malta Summer Arts Festival. From the 1^st to 23^rd July chose from food and wine festivals (Strada), Famenco dancing (Ring) to modern dance and drama acts (Barbarossa).

July is a particularly lively time of year on the island with many events, concerts and festivals taking place. A highlight is the Malta International Jazz Festival (19^th – 21^st July), when visitors can listen to top international and Maltese artists present their musical prowess in the stunning setting of Valletta’s Grand Harbour Marina.
